There don’t appear to be any likely candidates from the descendants of Samson green Morgan. There were nine males that were “Possible but Unlikely.” All of the Descendants of Samson Green Morgan appear to have remained in the West Virginia and Ohio area. None seem to have moved until at least after World War II.

Follow-up

Further investigate the 9 “possible but unlikely” individuals if other candidates do not arise.

Note/– My Criteria:

  • “Candidates” are males born between 1925 and 1935.
  • “Not considered” are females who are unlikely to have had a male child between 1925 and 1935.
  • “Not a Candidate” are males born between 1915 and 1925 as being too young to have had a son between 1925 and 1935 and too old to be a candidate.
  • “Possible but unlikely” are males born between 1925 and 1935, but are not named Paul or Phil, which are the likely names of Glennis’ biological father, or otherwise don’t appear to fit the likely candidate who would have been in Minnesota or Michigan in 1953. I will revisit these possibilities later of this project fails to find a potential candidate.

ENDNOTES

  • [i] I’m pretty well convinced that Sanford, Sansom, and Samson are the same person. I believe that Sanford and Sansom were errors by the individuals who wrote what they think they heard. In any event, I am using Samson unless I have a compelling reason to use something else.
  • [ii] I used “Boy” and “Girl” for living individuals born since 1918 because they are possibly living.

Sarah D Morgan was born on 4 June 1876 to Francis & Fannie Morgan. This was a single birth. The same date and same parents indicate that the two individuals, Dora D. Morgan and Sarah D. Morgan are the same person. The child was buried as Dora D, so I use that name and have merged the individuals.

Birth, Marriage & Death CollectionOrion E. Morgan was born on 1 Sept 1878 in West Virginia. He married Grace Martin about 1906; they had five boys, Mervel, Clarence, Richerd, Glen, and Carl. None of them appear to have had boys between 1925 and 1935. He died in 1973 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

James Cyrus Morgan was born in October of 1880. He married Annie Cecil [LNU]. They had one son and two daughters, none of them appear to have children between 1925 and 1935.

That completes my look AT the children of Francis and Fannie (McGregor) Morgan. I have not found any strong candidates with this group.  Francis was the first of twelve children of Nathan Smith Morgan and Belinda Odell, so I will continue…

Follow-up

Next, I’ll look at the descendants of Samson G Morgan, son of Nathan Smith Morgan and Belinda Odell, who was born in 1842.

Note – My Criteria:

  • “Candidates” are males born between 1925 and 1935.
  • “Not considered” are females who are unlikely to have had a male child between 1925 and 1935.
  • “Not a Candidate” are males born between 1915 and 1925 as being too young to have had a son between 1925 and 1935 and too old to be a candidate.
  • “Possible but unlikely” are males born between 1925 and 1935, but are not named Paul or Phil, which are the likely names of Glennis’ biological father, or otherwise don’t appear to fit the “likely candidate” criteria as being in Minnesota or Michigan in 1953. I will revisit these possibilities later of this project fails to find a potential candidate.

Nathan Spencer Morgan was born on 1 August 1865 in McKim Creek, Pleasants County, West Virginia. He shows living with his parents, Francis Marion and Fanny R. Morgan during the 1870 and 1880 Census records.

Nathan married Alice M Redding in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska on 27 December 1890. He was 25 years old and Alice was 20 years old.

He appears to be living in the Yankee Hill Precinct of Lincoln in 1893.

Nathan died on 8 January 1898 and was buried at Yankee Hill Cemetery, Section 3, Lot 185, Space 6, in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska.

I have been unsuccessful finding any records showing any children of Nathan and Alice Morgan – Born 4 Jun 1876, Died 7 Feb 1879 – No issue. Alice appears to have been a domestic during the 1899 directory and clearly is listed in the 1900 city directory; however, I have been unable to find Alice in the 1900 city directory nor any record of her remarrying.

Note: There was an Irene Morgan, age 10, who was a servant in the household of Daniel G. Sullivan at 1413 B. Street, Lincoln, NE. I considered her a possible child of Nathan and Alice, although she would have been born four months before Nathan and Alice were married. Also, I have been unable to find Irene in any other records other than the 1900 Census.

John A. Morgan – Born 21 March 1867 in Pleasants County, West Virginia.

Married Daisy Wessel. They had four children:

  1.        Louise Morgan – Born 1898 – Died 1898 as an infant
  2.        Harold A. Morgan – Born 27 Sept 1899 Married Daily Wessel
    1.            James Arthur Morgan – Born 1933 in Nebraska – Possible but unlikely.
    2.            Two daughters – Born in the 1930s – Not considered.
  3.        Mildred Eloise Morgan –  Born 1905 – Married Vain Burt Franks 1921
    1.            Kenneth Franks – Born 1922-1923 – Not a Candidate.
    2.            One daughter born in the 1920s – Not considered.
  4.        Erma Ruth Morgan – Born 1906 – Married Wilbert Clayton Bauer in 1943. Not considered.

Criteria:

  • “Candidates” are males born between 1925 and 1935.
  • “Not considered” are females who are unlikely to have had a male child between 1925 and 1935.

Follow-up

  • Research Irene Morgan if and determine if she was a child of Nathan and Alice or died without children. Low priority.
  • Follow-up with James Arthur Morgan – Born 1933 in Nebraska if necessary. He is “Possible but unlikely.”

DNA – Glennis’ Paternal Search – Part 6

Following Morgan/Morgan/Hemsworth/Luzader & Deem

By Don Taylor

Photo of Don Taylor with cat Nasi. The scope of the project exploded last time, when I learned that there was apparently a pedigree collapse in my notional Morgan-Hemsworth research to attempt to learn Glennis’ father’s identity. I knew the project had gotten bigger; however, I didn’t realize how much bigger.  Nathan Smith Morgan and Belinda Odell Morgan probably had a dozen children. Their oldest, Francis Marion Morgan married Fannie R. McGregor in 1862 and they had a dozen children also. With so many large families, it is possible I have several hundred more individuals to research.

Morgan/Morgan/Hemsworth

The oldest child of Francis & Fannie Morgan was Clara. Clara married Gilbert Hemsworth in 1882. (This is probably another point for pedigree collapse as Clara’s Aunt Mary married James Hemsworth. So, I’ll bet Gilbert was somehow related to James.) It appears that Clara and Gilbert only had had two children.  The two children were both girls, Gail and Naomi Hemsworth.

Morgan/Morgan/Hemsworth/Luzader

Gail married Everett Ainsley Luzader about 1914. Following them through the 1920, 1930, and 1940 censuses, it appears that they only had four children.

  1. Brooks Luzader – Born 1915.
  2. Morgan Luzader – Born 1916
  3. Ralph Eugend Luzader – Born 1919
  4. Beatrice Joe Luzader – Born 1925-1926.

All four children appear to be too young to have had a child that could be a candidate to be Glennis’ biological father.  Likewise, I believe all three boys are too old to be a candidate to be the “baby daddy.” It is my belief that Glennis’s biological father was born between 1922 and 1935. (Ten years older to three years younger than her mother.)

Morgan/Morgan/Hemsworth/Deem

Next, I looked at Gilbert and Clara’s younger daughter, Naomi.  Naomi married Earl Sanford Deem.

They had seven children. Four were daughters and would be too young to have had sons that could be considered as candidates. Three were boys; Earl (Junior) and two others who may still be living. All three are possible candidates and should be investigated as potential candidates. A quick look at their lives indicated no immediately discernable evidence that any of them migrated to Minnesota or Michigan, so I consider them very low potential candidates and will investigate further as required.

Morgan/Morgan 2

Clara’s oldest brother was Henry Clifford Morgan. Henry was born in 1869 and died in 1884 at the age of 15. I presume he died without issue.

GEDMatch Update

I looked at Glennis’ results on GEDCOM. There was a new match.  This time with someone with the surname JC.  There was a tree associated with JC and that led back to a common ancestor with my notional tree.  Now I have three people related genetically with my half sister, all of whom go back to a common ancestor of Nathan and Belinda (Odell) Morgan. I’m sure I’m on the right track. I just wish I had a closer match to chase down.

Conclusion

Following the descendants of Nathan and Belinda (Odell) Morgan is a tiresome task. I can really appreciate the genealogists of old and their creating decadency charts and tables.

Next time, I’ll investigate the descendants of Lewis V. P. Morgan (1871-1953).
